Newborn Care and Baby Health
From your baby's very first days, I closely follow their growth, feeding and healthy development.

What is newborn follow-up?
Newborn follow-up is the period of close care covering the first month after birth. These are the most intense weeks of adjustment for both baby and family: breastfeeding settles, weight gain speeds up and temporary conditions such as jaundice come up. During this time I make a point of being an accessible doctor at the family's side.
What do I do at the first examination?
- Head-to-toe examination: hips, heart, eyes, reflexes,
- weighing and feeding assessment; observing a feed and supporting the latch,
- jaundice assessment; a bilirubin measurement plan if needed,
- checking that the heel-prick and hearing screening have been done,
- reviewing vitamin D and vitamin K.
Jaundice follow-up
Jaundice, seen in more than half of newborns, is usually physiological and fades on its own; what matters is telling apart the cases that need monitoring.
Throughout the first month
I follow weight gain and feeding at close intervals and give practical advice on everyday matters such as colic, sleep patterns and bathing. Do not dismiss any question on your mind during this period as too small; a question asked early is a problem solved before it grows.
Frequently asked questions
When should the first examination be?
I recommend it within the first week after discharge from hospital; these first days are the most critical period for jaundice, weight gain and breastfeeding.
How do I know my baby is getting enough milk?
At least 6 to 8 wet nappies a day, regular stools and the expected gain on the scales are the most reliable signs. If you are in doubt, let us meet for a weight check without delay.
How should I care for the umbilical cord?
Keeping the cord stump dry and clean is usually enough. If you notice redness, a bad smell or discharge, an examination is needed.
